Ni Hao! This year Onerahi School has a Chinese teacher named Ada. She is teaching Onerahi Primary students Mandarin Chinese and about Chinese culture.
Ada has come all the way from a place in China called Guangdong. She has been teaching other primary and intermediate schools all around Whangarei. Ada has a lot of knowledge about China and their culture such as Chinese New Year, the Lantern Festival and the Mid-autumn Festival.
She has taught Onerahi students how to say and write everyday foods in Chinese. Some students know how to count 1 to 5 in Chinese and basic greetings like “how are you”, “good-bye”, “thank you”, “I am good” and “hello”.
Onerahi school student Marita says, ”Chinese is another language for me! So it’s nice to learn Chinese as a language at this school”.
All of Onerahi School are looking forward to learning more about Mandarin Chinese and more about Chinese culture.
